2024 Observation Program
The Observation Process is being reviewed by the MichLOA Board. Details/updates will be added shortly.
Starting this year (2013) we will start working full field three man games at DCD for their fall/winter ball league. As Rick has mentioned, this is a great opportunity for us to work in the off season and do so in a three man environment. You will not be working more than one game so there is no reason to pace yourself. Rick and the MichLOA Board reached accord so that assignments will be spread out to give many people an opportunity. All games will be observed and we will be sending out our observation criteria and format later this week. Regardless of any conversation you have with Rick, it is imperative that you also use this form and submit your observation to me and Roger Pattee.
Though Rick has assigned a referee to each game, do not be surprised if the referee picks one of his crew members to act as the referee for both the pre-game and during the game. You should arrive for each game at least 30 minutes before hand to go through some sort of pre-game without fail!
Do not come to the game unprepared. We know mistakes will be made, just as they are in any game. That being said, you have all had ample training, guidance, and direction on three man mechanics. The materials are available for your review. The actions of one will reflect on MichLOA as a whole and all our efforts to pursue three man crews can easily be lost.
You will use 2012 Rules with the following exceptions:
· Quickly conduct a coin toss for AP and goal
· Quickly conduct a handshake by the teams in a pre-game line up
· Games will be 25 minute running halves
· All substitutions are on the fly. HOWEVER, you should use proper side line OB mechanics and also wind arm on restarts
· Regular penalty time. Report all penalties to the table as you would do in the regular season
· No time outs
· Since this is running time, it is expected that you will hustle to conduct the next face off. The players should not be waiting for you
If you cannot master three man mechanics then we cannot use you on three man games. By the same token, not all varsity games will be three man and we all know that a two man game is even more challenging than a three man game in many respects. These games are part of your evaluation and try outs for varsity high school games in the 2013 season. Take advantage of the opportunity.
If you have any questions, please contact me by phone or in writing.
